HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 2ND

Well the folks at Sea Eagle didn't have a shark for us, but they offered us to come back in the spring when they can catch one! So we saw, felt, and smelled alot of fish guts and identified their parts instead.
I hope everyone completed the reading and note taking that was due yesterday eventhough I wasn't able to check your notebooks.
For Friday, we'll keep it simple: read p110-116, stop at Avoiding Shark Bites. You should have the following words with definitions in your notebooks: 1. Megalodon 2. ampullae of Lorenzini 3. Squatiniformes with Angelsharks and Monkfish 4. Squaliformes 5. Hexanchiformes 6. Heterodontiformes 7. Orectolobiformes, 8. gill rakers, 9. Lamniformes with Great White Sharks, and 10. Carcharhiniformes with Hammerheads. You should list the characteristics of the animals in these different "formes"
You can wait to turn in your crossword puzzle until Tues if you haven't finished it.
Next week we'll have our research and lapbook work. If you want to start on your Ocean Box animals, you should pick one shark and one ray.

ADDITION TO PREVIOUS BLOG/PLEASE READ BOTH

Sorry for the delay I had put this on my French blog by mistake.

For Friday please read from Lesson 7 p103-106, stopping at Manta Rays. Have the following words defined in your notebook: cartilage, chondrichthyes, dermal denticles, spiracles, batoids, stingrays. Although we will have a field trip on Tuesday the 29th after Thanksgiving Break, you will have homework to do on the 28th. Over break I may suggest the "fun" activities of the lesson: your clay figures, crossword and pictures from the internet.
See you Friday.

HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 18TH

Wasn't Mrs. Parsick, the Turtle Lady, fantastic! Thanks to Matthew's mom for suggesting she come talk to our class. Everyone received their test. You should take it Wednesday. Thursday please start reading from the Shark Lesson. On November 29th when we return from break, we will go on a field trip to Sea Eagle Market to watch a shark dissection. So we're going to skip forward in the book. We'll go back to the other chapters later. Check the blog back Wednesday. I'll post the reading assignment by 12pm.

HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY THE 15TH

I hope you behaved for Mrs. Beach on Friday and got alot of reviewing done. I missed all of you. Please study for our Lesson 4 Test. On Tuesday we will have a special treat. Mrs. Denise Parsick will talk to us about turtles. We will stay in the Youth Suite, and combine with the Marine Biology students. I will expect much better behavior for her than we have in our class. No faces, no sideline chats, no interrupting with questions. I'm sure you will have an opportunity to ask questions at the end of her presentation.
I will collect all work that was due Friday and return your homework. Don't forget to make your Ocean Box creature if you haven't yet. You will take your test home along with an honesty statement provided by TCA. The test will be due back Friday.
Have a great weekend.

HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 11TH

Please finish reading the lesson; take notes on vocab: anura, Surinam toad, caudata, mudpuppies and hellbender. On Friday we will review for the Lesson Test which will be next Tuesday.
For Friday, do your experiment write up. This should take 10-15 minutes. Level A research 2-3 sea snakes giving 5 facts each in your Lapbook. Level B research 4-6 sea snakes with 5 facts each in your lapbook.
For next Tuesday, Level A & B, make a T-chart comparing Reptiles and Amphibians like we did in class today. Do this on loose leaf paper and I will add in to your Lapbook when I grade them. I hope you chose your Ocean Box creature for this chapter. You should have it made by next Tuesday.
I look forward to reading your stories and papers due this Friday.
Call if you have questions.

HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY THE 8TH

LEVEL A & B Read and take notes on p 64 Sea Snakes to p 68. Stop at Frog or Toad. We will do Try This in class. (You can choose to finish the lesson so you can focus on the paper for next Friday).
Make sure you complete your Crossword Puzzle. Your ocean box creature is not due until 11-15-11. Make a turtle, sea snake, frog, toad or salamander.
DUE FRIDAY THE 11TH:
Choose a creative assignment or a research paper:
LEVEL A: either choice must be 1pg min in length - LEVEL B: either choice must be 1 1/2-2 pgs.
The creative assignment is to write a story between a reptile and an amphibian. It should include dialogue and characteristics of each animal. You should be able to do this after reading p 67.
The research paper is an essay on Turtle Conservation. You should have an introduction, 2 or more paragraphs then a conclusion. Include several or all species that are endangered, where they live, and what is being done to protect them.
OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT:
This lesson's experiment p 72 involves raising tadpoles. Since we cannot do this in class, and it may be unfeasible for some families, you can choose to do this or not. If anyone choose to do this, let me know. I will give one month to complete the write up on the Scientific Speculation Sheet.
Have a great weekend.
