I hope things went smoothly on Friday. Since you did not have an opportunity to work on the paper in class, I am extending the assignment until next Friday. Instead can you please try to finish the crossword puzzle and the 2 anatomy charts. If you don't have time to continue reading from the book, we'll catch up in class on Tues.
We enjoyed our weekend away.

HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 27TH
Please be on your best behavior for Mrs. Stacks when she substitutes on Friday.
I am changing the order of work from what we talked about in class. Instead of your "crab" paper being due on Friday, you will spend time in class writing it. If you want to type it then be sure to bring a computer to class.
For Friday, read p126-131, stopping at Creation Confirmation, then skip to reading about Horseshoe Crabs p136. Make sure you have a list of characteristic of these animals in your Lapbook: Lobster, Crayfish, Crabs, Fiddler Crabs, Hermit Crabs, and Horseshoe Crab. Please also find pictures for each of these animals, and label them one per page. You can use this information for your crab paper that you will write in class on Friday.
The topic is a creative dialogue between a Fiddler or plain crab, a Hermit Crab, and a Horseshoe crab. They should talk about where they live, what their differences are, and how they are similar. If you want to write a factual paper, then you will put the information in one long paragraph with a good topic sentence. The paper will be due Tues. 1-31. Level A paper 1 typed page, Level B 1 1/2 minimum. See you next Tuesday.

HOMEWORK FOR TUESDAY THE 24TH
We were able to start reading and taking notes on Lesson 8, but since this is a fairly long chapter I will need you to read and take notes on the vocabulary through p 126. You can stop at Lobsters. We had left off at the vocabulary word "chitin" on p122, but I'm not sure if everyone wrote down the definition, so please check your student's notes.
SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT
Although the date has not been set, it's time to start thinking about a topic. You can look at the experiments from our book that we've been skipping because they involve live animals. There's one on fish Lesson 6, sea monkeys Lesson 8; or you can present your own idea. It needs to be biology or ecology related, not chemistry or physics. I would like to approve the idea before you move forward, so please have 2 choices available for me by January 30th.

HOMEWORK FOR FRIDAY THE 13TH
I handed out the crossword puzzle for this lesson but it is not due until next Tues. the 17th. For Friday read and take notes p91-96. Start thinking about how you would "design" your own fish. Look at the mouth shapes and different fin shapes, and the size of the eyes. You could cut out the body and fins from different colored construction paper maybe or just draw one. It should be big enough to fill a 8 1/2X11 sheet of paper. This is separate from the Ocean Box creature.
Plan for your next Ocean Box creature - a fish. Ocean Box presentations will be due as follows:
Tues the 17th: Allie, Jacob, and J.T. and Fri the 20th Connor and Matthew. We should also finish with the lesson and be having our test on the 20th since it's the last day of class.
Please recheck the blog late Wednesday afternoon. I will try to give all work for the rest of this lesson. No additional work will be due Friday, but you can plan ahead for next week.
